With remarkable achievements and a clear vision for the future of the maritime industry in India, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), in partnership with the Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships (DGLL), organized a virtual event on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Deep Bhavan, Noida. The event embarked on the presence of industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and stakeholders from around the world to discuss key challenges and opportunities in the maritime sector.

Delivering a special video message at the event, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), & AYUSH, emphasized “India stands as a driving force, poised to script the next chapter in South Asia’s maritime history. Under the dynamic leadership of the honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, this roadshow exemplifies our deep-rooted cultural ties and our collective commitment to turning our nation’s grand vision into reality. GMIS 2023 serves as a significant global initiative aimed at propelling India’s maritime economy to new heights by fostering partnerships on both global and regional scales while facilitating strategic investments.

 He further added, “I extend a warm welcome to all stakeholders in the maritime sector, be it local or global, to utilize this event as a platform to present investment prospects that will unlock the immense maritime potential of our region. Throughout history, Indian ports have been a beacon, attracting and serving global leaders from around the world. Our maritime goal is clear: to facilitate seamless global supply chains, ensuring that India plays a pivotal role in this dynamic and ever-evolving sector.”

The virtual roadshow witnessed the active participation of both industry veterans and government officials, fostering dynamic conversations revolving around crucial prospects within the Indian Maritime sector. This event was organised as a precursor to the highly anticipated 3rd Global Maritime India Summit, 2023 (GMIS), scheduled to take place from October 17th to October 19th, 2023, at Bharat Mandapam. The summit, organized in an exclusive partnership with FICCI, is dedicated to nurturing connections, propelling collaborative initiatives, and igniting innovation, all encapsulated within the overarching theme of ‘Connect, Collaborate & Create’.

Shri Madhukar Gudadhe, Deputy Director General (Mumbai), Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, delivered the keynote address, stating “Our unwavering commitment to progress is evident in our relentless pursuit of simplifying business processes and seamlessly integrating digital initiatives. We believe in creating an enabling regulatory environment, demonstrated through comprehensive policy reforms.”
