Its new GCX service is the first phase in the carrier’s expansion into the South Asia & Middle East markets.
There has been strong demand for Gold Star Line’s (GSL) recently-launched GCX service which connects China with ports in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Middle East and South-East Asia.
The service, which launched late last year, is the first in a number to be introduced this year by GSL as it looks to strengthen its Intra-Asia offering and extend into the Middle East and Africa.
“We see many opportunities in the Intra-Asia sector and the new GCX service was introduced to meet growing demand from our customers for services linking China with South Asia and the Middle East,” said Mr Danny Hoffmann, Managing Director of Gold Star Line.
He mentioned that China’s One Belt One Road initiative had also had a positive impact on trade with South Asian countries.
“We have seen a significant increase in demand to Indian Subcontinent areas, which is a direct result of investment by Chinese, Korean and Japanese companies,” he added.
The GCX service operates with six vessels of 6,500 TEUs on a weekly basis and calls at Xingang – Qingdao – Shanghai – Ningbo – Shekou – Da Chan Bay – Port Klang – Colombo -Karachi – Jebel Ali – Colombo – Port Klang – Singapore – Xingang
GSL has improved its network significantly in the region solving many customer demands.
