This would be mainly to launch a ferry service between Dhanushkody and Rameshwaram in India and Talaimannar.
The Minister was speaking at the inaugural session of the Singapore Transworld Group’s Global Management Conference organised by Transworld GLS Sri Lanka at Kingsbury Hotel where over 65 foreign members of the TGS management staff based across the world participated at the conference.
The Minister said that Colombo North Port Development Plan has now been well formulated and will be presented to President Ranil Wickremesinghe on April 21 at the BMICH. The Minister said the whole operation and management of the new Colombo North Port will be a Public Private Partnership (PPP) venture, which he believes is the most efficient way forward towards success and effectiveness.
He said that he has finalised the Action Plan to implement the ‘Port Community System’ according to the model of the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands.
A new shipping line will commence operating to Colombo from Visakhapatnam port, east of India, from this month,” said Chairman and CEO Transworld Group Singapore (TGS), Mahesh Sivaswamy.
“The conference is being held in various countries around the world each year and this time it is held here in Sri Lanka with the prime purpose of promoting tourism and supporting the maritime industry. When the country is in a difficult time, it is our duty as private sector to support the government to rebuild the economy,” Sivaswamy added.
