This exemption is aimed at supporting the exports from the state’s horticulturists and farmers, particularly during the apple season from July to October. The initiative will benefit stakeholders and assist in the smooth transportation of these products. Truck drivers from other states who are not covered under the National Permit will particularly benefit from the relaxation.

The apple season in Himachal extends from July to October. Apple export contributes around Rs 5,000 crore to the state’s economy and the fruit is grown in 21 out of 68 assembly segments. Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts besides selective pockets of Solan, Sirmaur and Kangra districts are key apple growing areas.
