Hindustan Zinc plans new facility

Vedanta Ltd’s group company, Hindustan Zinc on Tuesday invited Expression of Interest (EoIs) from bidders to set up a new melting and casting facility for Zinc Alloys and Zinc Dust plant on the engineering, procurement and construction basis within one year in Rajasthan.

“EoIs are invited from reputed, well-experienced, financially sound, bidders to set up fully automated melting and casting facility for Zinc Alloys and Zinc Dust plant,” the company published an advertorial on Tuesday.

Hindustan Zinc in its statement said that the new subsidiary company is being formed for producing various alloy products of Zinc in RD Complex-Rajsamand, Rajasthan. The new company will be able to concentrate on better grades as well as the most efficient manufacturing, the company said.

“The plant to have latest technology features for managing emissions and utilising green energy. HZL has been producing few alloys from time to time with existing facilities,” the company said.

According to the statement, the major plant units include zinc cathode melting furnace capacity of 16 tonnes per hour, cathode charging system, with tillable coreless alloy furnace and holding furnace of capacity 15 tonnes per hour. zinc slab casting machine and zinc alloy slab casting machine is also part of the project.

Hindustan Zinc has a total metal production of 913-kilo tonne per annum and 210 ktpa of lead metal production.

“The company’s integrated zinc operations currently hold 78% market share in India’s primary Zinc industry,” the statement said.

Hindustan Zinc reported a 4% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended September at Rs 2,017 crore. The Vedanta group firm has also reported record-high operating earnings for the first half of FY22 at Rs 6,890 cr, up 51% Y-o-Y.
