An Inland Container Depot is being planned near Makansar, Morbi, in Saurashtra. The Gujarat Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (G-RIDE) has given in principle approval to the project. G-RIDE, a joint venture between the government of Gujarat and Ministry of Railways is focused at developing rail projects and infrastructure in the state. Saurashtra, so far, doesn’t has an ICD or a rail terminal for movement of cargo, hence all the exports and imports are being managed from Mundra Port, Deendayal Port and Pipavav Port. Movement of cargo from Saurashtra to these ports takes place through road. Every month, about 4000 containers are exported and 1500 containers are imported into Saurashtra.
In 2015, CONCOR had signed an agreement with the state government during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit to develop an ICD at Rajkot, but this project has not taken off yet.
