N K Premachandran, MP, said that immigration check post should be started at Kollam Port using the facilities provided by the state government and more time should be allowed to prepare the facilities as per the requirements of the central government. Kollam Port is a naturally endowed port with sufficient facilities to serve foreign ships as well.
Lack of immigration facility is a hindrance to the port. The international shipping channel passes close to the port and ships can easily dock at the port during rough sea.
