Transport load has gone up engaging around 80 per cent truckers in the business as industries have ramped up production in the last quarter of the fiscal and retail segment has started building inventories to cater to rising demand.

Transportation of raw material and finished goods from manufacturing units have seen a significant jump in January, while movement of goods in the retail segment led by kirana and electronics has also gone up.

Harvest of agriculture crops starting March is expected to further push the movement of logistics, said industry players.

All India Motor Transport Congress (West Zone) former vice-president Vijay Kalra said, “Around 80 per cent trucks of the region are back into business as truckloads from industries and retail have gone up. Movement of trucks has increased on roads and loads from industries across sectors have seen a significant rise.”

According to truckers, industrial and agricultural goods contribute to over 70 per cent of the truckloads in Indore region followed by kirana and other retail segments.

January to June is the peak season for transporters when over 50 per cent of the annual load is transported. A garment manufacturer Bhupesh Agrawal said, “We have our hands full this season with orders from most parts of the country. Dispatches of ready-made from factories to sellers have started and this time we have booked around 30 per cent more loads as against our average volume every time in this season.”

Truckload from Indore, a major trading and business centre of the state, is expected to increase further from February-March due to movement of agricultural goods from the state.

Another transporter Praveen Agrawal said, “Wedding season is expected to give a major push to the transport business. Movement of goods from kirana and other retail segments has gone up in the wedding season.”
