The Customs duty which stands at 200% will be revised and trade corridors with Pakistan will be reopened, as soon as the Congress government takes over at the centre, announced Shashi Tharoor. Trade with Pakistan was halted in 2019, following the Pulwama terror attack and imports from the neighbouring country were burdened with 200% Customs duty. Trade communities on either side have been advocating for normalising of the trade relations.

Even in Amritsar & Gurdaspur, major parties are in favour of reopening Attari-Wagah land route to give a fillip to local economy. The value of bilateral trade between India and Pakistan through the cross border Attari land route was around Rs 5,000 crore per annum before the bilateral trade ties were suspended in 2019.
