For the month of August, most of the carriers have announced an increase in FAK rates to about $5,500 per container.

From 1st of August, MSC has announced a rate increase of $5500 per teu and $5800 per feu from Nhava Sheva, Ennore and Kolkata to Antwerp. For loads to Valencia, the increased FAK rates will be $6,200 and $6,500, respectively. The freight rates had stabilised a little after the Red Sea crisis induced spike, but are again seeing an upward trend.

A similar rise in FAK rates has been announced by CMA CGM for shipping from India to North Europe and the Mediterranean, putting at $6,500 per dry 20-foot/40-foot container. Some of the carriers are also adding additional charges of around $500 per container for guaranteeing space onboard ships.

An emergency space contingency surcharge is being levied by Hapag-Lloyd to the tune of

$500 per TEU/FEU on shipments from the Indian subcontinent to North/South Europe.

The increase in container volumes at Nhava Sheva and Mundra is also causing longer turnaround time for truckers arriving to pick and drop containers.
