India’s first Hydrogen fuelled ferry to sail in Ganga

The vessel has recently crossed the New Navigational Lock at Farakka in West Bengal and it is set to be deployed on the River Ganga.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has gone a step ahead in making riverine transport more greener by deploying Hydrogen fuel cell powered ferries. The first of its kind vessel is currently sailing towards Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

The vessel has recently crossed the New Navigational Lock at Farakka in West Bengal and it is set to be deployed on the River Ganga. The vessel was built at the Cochin shipyard and was launched virtually by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 March.
