The Prime Minister has inaugurated the first Industrial Corridor in South India, located in Tumakuru, as part of the Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. This project is aimed at promoting the vision of self-reliant India, with a holistic and integrated approach. The National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) and the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) are working together to develop the industrial township in three phases.
The project, which covers a total area of 8,500 acres, comprises of three nodes: Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Tumakuru in Karnataka, and Ponneri in Tamil Nadu, with Tumakuru being prioritized for development. Phase A of the project is expected to attract investments worth around Rs 7,000 crore over 5-6 years, driving growth and prosperity in the region.
The industrial township in Tumakuru will boast world-class infrastructure, with easy access to transportation links such as the Mumbai-Chennai NH-48, Bengaluru International Airport (115 km away), Tumakuru Railway Station (25 km away), and Mangaluru Port (300 km away). The multi-modal connectivity will ensure seamless movement of raw materials and finished goods.
The project will be a mixed-use development with a combination of industrial, institutional, residential, commercial, and green spaces, making it a self-sustainable and resilient smart industrial city. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of this project in promoting Atmanirbhar Bharat and advancing the principles of PM-GatiShakti.
