Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Codissia representatives and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have requested the district administration to set up a MMLP at Neelambur or Chettipalayam in the district. The district administration will soon prepare a master plan for the MMLP. Heavy valves for petroleum industries and allied sectors in the US and Europe, yarn and textile products to European countries, pumps to Southeast Asian countries, Apparel from Tirupur to Europe and US are exported from the region through Cochin Port or Cochin International airport. In this scenario, if excise or Customs officials demand for inspection of the containers, then exporters or their representatives will have to travel from Coimbatore or Tirupur to Cochin port with export documents. If the MMLP is set up in Coimbatore, then the inspection by excise and Customs officials will be done in Coimbatore itself.
