Mormugao Port Trust in its endeavour to develop and promote cause of sports among the student fraternity of Goa, organized a state level Inter-school football tournament in association with Rotary Club of Vasco Port Town. The tournament was held from 25th to 27th September 2019 at the MPT’s Deepvihar High School grounds, Headland Sada. 16 schools from in and around Goa actively participated in the tournament which was played on knockout basis.
The finals which were held on 27th September 2019, indeed proved to be a clash of the titans in which Deepvihar High School clashed with Marina High English School, Verna, for the title. After an intense match, with both the teams not able to score any goal during the regulated time, it ended in a draw. Finally, Marina High School, Verna, emerged the winners in a tie breaker 4-3 penalty shootout to clinch the title. Marina English High School, Verna was coached by Shri Umer Mutawali.
Atmaram Jadhav from St. Xavier’s School, Moira bagged the individual trophy for the highest goal scorer and Brian Soares from Deepvihar High School, Sada was adjudged the best goalkeeper. International footballer Shri Francis Fernandes who was the chief guest and Chairman of Mormugao Port Trust Dr. E. Ramesh Kumar IAS, as guest of honour, for the final match and the closing ceremony, later gave away the prizes.
Cheryl Lewis, president Rotary Club of Vasco Port Town, Senior Officials of Mormugao Port Trust and members of Rotary Club of Vasco Port Town, were also present during the finals.
