The Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) Authority has requested district collector Gangatharan D to acquire 8.5 acres to establish rail connectivity for the proposed 108-acre multi-modal logistical park (MMLP) in Niphad.

The JNPA, in a letter to collector Gangatharan D, has requested him to start the process of land acquisition to establish rail connectivity with Central Railways’ tracks passing through Niphad.

Niphad, is the home town of Union minister of state for health and family welfare, Bharati Pawar. “With the acquisition, the ball will be set rolling for the setting up of the park, which will be equipped with facilities like customs clearance and other amenities to assist exporters,” Pawar said.

Pawar, in whose parliamentary constituency — Dindori — the park will come up in, met Union shipping and ports minister Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi and urged him to expedite the project.

The MMLP will bring in different modes of transportation facilities together under one roof for efficient and speedy movement of goods besides setting up facilities to efficiently handle, grade and store agricultural produce like grapes, onion, pomegranate, dehydrated onions, processed agricultural products. Also, the export of construction machinery, automobiles and pharmaceutical products etc. from Nashik Division will find a boost.

The process of de-mortgaging land that belonged to Nashik Sugar Factory has been already been carried out. The land was mortgaged for Rs 135 crore with the Nashik District Central Cooperative Bank.
