JNPT has further consolidated its position as India’s No. 1 container port by handling a total of 4.71 million TEUs in calendar year 2017, an increase of 4.27 per cent over the previous year’s figure.
This was brought about by the performance of the individual terminals. According to sources, GTI handled 1.96 m TEUs, JNPCT 1.51 m TEUs, NSICT, 0.65 m TEUs and NSIGT 0.59 m TEUs.
JN Port is set to get a tremendous boost in capacity soon with the opening of Phase 1 of PSA’s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal, which would be able to handle 2.4 m TEUs.
