Muscat-based Asyad Group has inaugurated Khazaen Dry Port (KDP) in Khazaen Economic City in Barka, in a ceremony attended by a host of government officials, dignitaries and representatives from the private sector. Developed over an area of 100,000 m2, KDP is the first facility of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman and will serve as a land logistics hub linking Oman and other countries in the region. It is expected to offer great value as a re-export and transshipment hub, providing customs-bonded services, and open up opportunities across the warehousing services and multimodal transportation sectors.
The Dry Port, which has an annual throughput capacity of 70,000 TEU, contains a truck rest area and offers customs-bonded facilities for the storage, and unloading and loading of both dry cargo and reefer containers as well as general cargo. There are plans to expand the port’s logistics area by an additional 150,000 m2 over the next five years to accommodate expected increases in the volume of work.
Private sector parters in KDP include Khimji Ramdas, Al Madina Logistics and Mubadara. On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, H.E. Sheikh Issa bin Hamad Al-Azri, Governor of South Al Batinah, inaugurated the operations management system at the port, and a further partnership agreement was signed between KDP and Land and Sea Logistics Company.
