KICT handles first domestic container rake of Apollo India

Kandla International Container Terminal (KICT), one of the flagship terminals’ of the J. M. Baxi Group, commenced operations in January 2017. It has now crossed another milestone in its journey towards seamless container handling by handling the first domestic container rake of Apollo India with India Infrastructure and Logistics Pvt. Ltd.

On the night of January 15, 2018, Rake no. TWIIL-05/R17021 arrived at Kandla and departed to Modinagar, Meerut (PMKM) on January 16 with 90×20″ ISO tanks. The commodities handled were acetic acid and denature ethyl alcohol.

The Container Rail Terminal (CRT) at KICT, which has the alphanumeric code “KPRK 08524070”, has till date handled 20 rakes of ex-im containers with a total of 887 TEUs, and 5 rakes of domestic containerised cargo totalling 224 TEUs.

KICT has been operational for one year and has its own dedicated rail siding which is a key advantage to the trade, as it is the nearest rail terminal connecting to the northern hinterland of India, thus making it “The gateway of northern India to the world”.
