The state government invited expression of interest (EoI) for setting up industry at Jangalsundari Karmanagari in Purulia last year. Besides, the district magistrates (DM) of eight districts have started identifying land for three industry corridors near the hub. State commerce and industries minister Shashi Panja disclosed this at the 36th and 37th Export Award function of EEPC India.
The industry park in Purulia was announced by chief minister Mamata Banerjee. Jangalsundari has 2,000 acres and is adjacent to State Highway No. 5. Panja said the focused sectors for the park are auto component, EVs (e-vehicles), automobile, electronics and electric equipment, engineering and machine goods.
“Provision of space for MSME industry has also been included,” she said, adding that that for three industry corridors — Tajpur- Raghunathpur, Dankuni-Jhargram and Dankuni-Kalyani — land identification process is on. “DMs of Burdwan, Midnapore (east and West), Purulia, Bankura, Nadia and Hooghly are identifying land,” she added.
The minister added that EEPC India is hand-holding engineering exporters to reach overseas markets.
EEPC India chairman Arun Kumar Garodia earlier said that the growth of the engineering goods sector is critical for the economy considering that it is most labour-intensive after agriculture and contributes to around one-fourth of India’s merchandise exports. “EEPC has been on its toes to promote engineering exports from India since its very inception in line with the initiatives of the Centre and we are proud to play an instrumental role in helping engineering exports reach an all-time high of $112.1 billion last fiscal,” Garodia said.
H P Budhia, chairman of Patton group, was one of the prominent awardees at the EEPC awards function.
