Korea wants to build automobiles in Bangladesh because it sees the country as a key trade and investment destination, according to Lee Jang-Keun, the Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh.
“As part of its global trade and commerce expansion, Korea has been aiming to manufacture cars in Bangladesh,” he said at a meeting with Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at the Secretariat in the capital.
According to Bangladesh’s commerce minister, a trade deal between Bangladesh and Korea is needed to boost trade and investment. “Bangladesh wants to expand its exports to Korea, where it currently sells readymade clothing,” Tipu Munshi said. He urged that the two countries look into the possibility of a free trade agreement.
Lee Jang-Keun said the development of Bangladesh is visible now and the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Korea is at its peak. Several Korean companies are involved in RMG, electronic products and some other sectors in Bangladesh.
