Land Port next to Maitri Setu in Tripura to be operational next month

Movement of goods and people through the Maitri Setu between India and Bangladesh is expected to start next month, as per the details shared by the Land Port Authority of India.

A land port has been established in Sabroom located in South Tripura district to facilitate flow of people and cargo across the Maitri Setu, which is built on the river Feni. The land port will also be operational in the coming month, a senior official of the Land Port Authority of India said.

Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) Chairman Aditya Mishra visited the Sabroom Integrated Check Post (ICP) and inspected the facility for enabling seamless flow of people and cargo across borders.

Mishra was accompanied by LPAI Secretary Vivek Burman, LPAI member Sanjeev Gupta, Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General Piyush Patel, and BSF 96 Battalion Commandant Abhimunya Jha. The senior officials of the BSF and LPAI took stock of the ground situation and suggested their views on the possible modifications for the betterment of the project. During their tour they had inspected the Maitri Setu as well which is awaited to be made operational. A delegation from Bangladesh also joined the higher officials of India. The Bangladesh delegation included PD Ramgarh Port Sarwar Alam, CO Lt. Col. Syed Imam Hossain, UNO- Ramgarh Mamta Afrin, AC Land- Ramgarh Manas Chandra Das, OC Debapriya Das, OC Traffic- Munir Hossain, and others.

The Bangladesh officials shared the details about the development that has taken place on the Bangladesh side. Speaking to the media persons, the chairman of LPAI said, “The project under our watch is nearing completion. We are making all possible efforts to get this port inaugurated by next month. This port will facilitate the movement of goods and passengers between the two countries and boost the economy of the region.”
