Agility Logistics of Abu Dhabi awarded Lift & Shift India Pvt. Ltd a contract for inland transportation of 18 critical equipments from L&T, Hazira and ISGEC, Dahej manufacturing yard for delivery under ship hook at Adani Port, Hazira and Adani Port, Dahej, respectively.
Equipment fabricated at L&T Hazira
L&T fabricated 12 equipments ranging between 200 and 270 tons. These equipments were to be delivered at Adani Port, Hazira in 2 shipments of 6 each. Road transportation of these equipments from L&T Hazira to Adani Port, Hazira was done on 14 hydraulic axle lines in a convoy of 2/3 trailers. Due to heavy traffic congestion at Adani Port during working hours, movement had to start at 5 am with the help of RTO and police authorities. The job was undertaken smoothly without any delay.
Equipment fabricated at ISGEC, Dahej
ISGEC, Dahej fabricated 6 equipments to be transported to Adani Port, Dahej in 2 shipments. Since these equipments were super-sized and over-dimensional, they posed a Herculean challenge to transport on public road for a distance of 15 km from ISGEC fabrication yard to Adani Port, Dahej. There were various minor power shutdowns to be obtained, including a major power shutdown of Gujarat Electricity Board. Coordinating and synchronising the transportation of equipments within proposed power shutdown dates was a challenge by itself.
Lift & Shift’s scope of work included transport of equipment from ISGEC to Adani Port, Dahej, roll onto barge, including sea study calculations, trailer bending calculations, ground load strength calculations, engineering load out operations, and lashing and sailing the barge to Mumbai for final delivery to ship.
The first shipment ship was to arrive on October 14, 2017 and, based on the tides, transport commenced on September 13 for 2 x 300 ton (atmospheric fractionator). The heaviest equipment of the first shipment was 800 tons (crude distillate column) which was loaded and transported between September 20 and October 3, 2017. This transport required civil works, viz. road modification, removal of 50 street lights, power block, and blocking one side of road for transport due to oversized equipment dimensions. The company arranged 2 barges between October 4 and 10, 2017 for loading out the 3 equipments with precise timing, arrangement of welding machines, cranes and sailed to Mumbai anchorage for final delivery to ship. The delivery was completed safely on time and the ship sailed for National Petroleum Company’s Al Zour Refinery project in Kuwait on October 21, 2017.
The second shipment comprised 1 x 300 ton (atmospheric fractionator) and 2 x 800 ton (crude distillate column) and the ship was to arrive on November 19, 2017. The challenge now being that the power shutdown would be required to be taken on 2 occasions at short spans, which would not be feasible, and hence, after a lot of deliberation it was agreed that Lift & Shift will arrange 2 sets of axles for transport of the 2 crude distillate columns together at the same time, implying 160 axles to be sanctioned for the said transport.
