Linking Indo-Bangladesh river systems

Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has requested Sarbananda Sonowal, for linking Gomati River with Meghna River System in Bangladesh through Sonamura (Tripura)-Doudkandi (Bangladesh) protocol route.

The Transport Minister has also requested dredging of Indo-Bangladesh waterways Protocol Route (Sonamura-Daudkandi) extending into the International Border and into Bangladesh (20.00 km) across the “no man’s land.” The Sonamura-Daudkandi waterways further can be linked to ports in Bangladesh such as Ashuganj, Mongla, and Chittagong.

Connectivity is further required with Ganga (National Waterway-1), Brahmaputra (National Waterway-2), Barak (National Waterway-16), Ultimately, to connect to Haldia port in Kolkata through sea routes and Sittwe port of the Kaladan project in Myanmar.
