Lockdown in Mongla Port municipality

Bagerhat district administration has imposed strict lockdown for seven days from tomorrow in Mongla Port municipality due to the increase in coronavirus infection.

At this time, all types of public transport, shopping malls, hotels-restaurants, ferry/trawler crossings will remain closed in the area.

In case of emergency ferries and trawlers can operate. Also, people can take delivery from hotels or restaurants in case of emergency.

Earlier, Mongla upazila administration imposed restrictions in the municipality from May 30 to June 8 following a sudden rise in Covid-19 infections.

Bagerhat Civil Surgeon KM Humayun Kabir said that in the last 24 hours till 8:00am today, 69 people were diagnosed with coronavirus in the district.

During the same time, four Covid-19 patients died in the district.

With this, the number of deceased stood at 1,962 people. The infection rate is about 44 percent.

The health department is working in coordination with all departments to prevent the infection, the civil surgeon said.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Azizur Rahman said the rate of coronavirus infection in the district has increased at an alarming rate in the last 15 days.

But Mongla port municipality is the highly-infected area. So, the decision of the strict lockdown has been taken, the DC added.
