Courier and logistics service entrepreneurs at a programme urged the government to declare the sector as the service industry.

At the second standing committee meeting on logistics and courier services held at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry office in Dhaka, they also demanded introducing a business-friendly policy for the sector.

They also discussed the draft of proposed ‘Mailing Operator and Courier Service Development and Regulatory Authority Act-2022’.

FBCCI president Md Jashim Uddin was the chief guest at the programme.

He said that the FBCCI was preparing a 20-year roadmap for development of the logistics and courier services sector

He said, ‘Future expansion of the country’s economy largely depends on logistics as the sector builds up a sustainable supply chain.’

Without an effective logistics ecosystem, even attaining food security is also impossible, Jashim said.

Director in-charge of the committee Md Naser said that the committee would soon prepare its recommendations for the amendment to the draft law.

Chairman of the committee and president of Courier Services Association of Bangladesh Hafizur Rahman Pulok said, ‘Courier and logistics companies would contribute more to the national economy if the government provides proper policy and legal support.’ Among others, co-chairmen of the committee Ahsan Habib Setu, Mokbul Ahmad, Nisser Uddin Ahmed, other members of the committee and FBCCI secretary general Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque were present in the meeting.
