A.P. Moller – Maersk and Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) broke ground for Saudi Arabia’s largest Integrated Logistics Park at Jeddah Islamic Port today (16 February). The new facility will be able to handle yearly volumes of around 200,000 TEUs across a variety of products.
The 225,000 m² greenfield project will be the first of its type at the Jeddah Islamic Port, offering extensive infrastructure for warehousing & distribution, cold storage, e-commerce and will serve as a hub for transshipments, petrochemical consolidation, air freight and LCL (less than container load) cargo.
According to a statement, the US$346 million investment project will offer customised logistics solutions and will place a strong emphasis on decarbonising logistics, with renewable energy powering the whole complex.
Additionally, the project is expected to create more than 2,500 direct and indirect employment in the country.
Furthermore, the Integrated Logistics Park will be fuelled entirely by solar energy generated by rooftop solar panels covering 65,000 m².
“Today’s groundbreaking ceremony is yet another milestone in building a logistics ecosystem that strengthens our position as an enabler of global logistics, while also focusing on our core targets around decarbonising logistics to achieve net zero by 2040,” stated Mohammad Shihab, managing director of Maersk Saudi Arabia.
