Maersk Container Industry (MCI) has marked a milestone with the production of its 400,000th Star Cool unit, which will be delivered to HMM.
Since 2005 when the first Star Cool container was produced, these reefers have been in service with many carriers and leasing companies around the world, with more than 50% owned and operated outside of the Maersk group.
According to the manufacturing company, Star Cool reefers have a cost-effective controlled atmosphere (CA) system and provide a refrigerant solution that reduces the Global Warming Potential (GWP) by 56%, while developing the first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) connectivity system, “Sekstant”.
Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) of MCI, Søren Leth Johannsen talk about the longstanding collaboration with HMM, saying that Star Cool reefer number 400,000 will go into service with HMM which is one of MCI’s earliest customers in Asia.
Additionally, MCI has been supplying reefer containers to HMM since before the Star Cool launch, in early 2009.
The most recent order from HMM is for a total of 1,500 Star Cool units, which are being
shipped to another box manufacturer for commissioning and deployment in South Korean carrier’s 60 worldwide service routes, according to a statement.
