In an integrated supply chain, warehousing and distribution operations are crucial. Maersk is experimenting with AI-powered warehouse design slotting digital solutions as part of its technology portfolio.
Slotting is critical in large-scale fulfilment operations to increase overall warehouse efficiency by maximising space use, enhancing productivity, and lowering inventory handling. Workflows, order preparation processing times, and the company’s operational strategy all benefit from ongoing inventory arrangement optimization within warehouses.
We can continuously improve supply chain processes by combining AI, building algorithms, predictive analytics, simulations, and data-driven analytics with business model innovations. Our customers can compete with a speedier time-to-market proposition because to this visibility. Decision-making is also aided by AI solutions that incorporate deep experience in machine learning, optimization, simulation, and data-driven analytics.

Maersk’s cross-functional innovation team has been working with IAI Labs Technology in Redlands, California, since November 2021 to develop a bespoke digital application for the slotting solution process at omni-channel fulfilment centres. The new technology being prototyped allows for software analysis to increase the accuracy and efficiency of results, as well as the allocation of things in storage locations for warehouse use.
The system is well along in the proof-of-concept stage and is already tracking with a 97 percent accuracy rate, indicating that digitization will considerably improve decision-making.
