Maersk-owned Performance Team has announced a new cold storage facility in Wilmington, North Carolina, which is expected to open in the third quarter of the next year.
The new facility in the United States is planned to serve imports and exports.
With North Carolina accounting for 10% of total US pork exports, the seventh largest in poultry production and the largest in sweet potato production, Maersk said the facility targets the refrigerated market of poultry, pork, bananas, potatoes and seafood.
“It is ideally located close to 27 refrigerated commodity production sites within 80 miles and can reach 225 million consumers within a one to two day transit,” said the parent company in a statement.
The facility is also expected to offer several additional services including USDA inspections, handling, storage, cold logistics, unloading, wrap, stamping, Swai Wrap, lot release, truck loading, case pick, slat, blast freeze, de-slat, floor loading, boxing/repacking, and tempering.
