To make Mongla Port a cutting-edge, premier maritime hub, the government has launched a major development project.

During a meeting with port authorities in Khulna, the shipping ministry’s adviser, Brig. Gen. (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, unveiled a number of important projects.

The projects involve building two new jetties, improving port infrastructure, and dredging the Pashur Channel. The port will be able to handle 30,000 vehicles, 4 million metric tons of cargo, and 800,000 TEU containers a year thanks to these projects.

Additionally, the adviser urged Bhutan and Nepal, two nearby countries, to use the Mongla Port, arguing that it would promote regional commerce and economic development. He underlined how important it is to promote the port’s services more internationally, especially through Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions abroad.

Through these improvements, Bangladesh’s position in South Asian marine trade will be strengthened and Mongla Port’s efficiency and competitiveness will be increased globally.
