Major port management and workers arrive at an amicable settlement

It has been reported that a fitment benefit of 8.5 per cent on the aggregate amount of basic pay as on 31 December 2021, plus 30 per cent of VDA as on 1 January 2022 shall be given to the port workers.

Major port workers have called off their strike after discussions with the port authorities arrived to a suitable conclusion regarding their pay revisions and allowances. An MoU has been arrived at between the Chairman of IPA and the representatives of six worker union federations. It has been reported that a fitment benefit of 8.5 per cent on the aggregate amount of basic pay as on 31 December 2021, plus 30 per cent of VDA as on 1 January 2022 shall be given to the port workers. The period of settlement will be from January 2022 to December 2026. A drafting committee will be constituted by the wage committee for preparing a settlement within 10 days. The committee will comprise one representative from each of the six federations and representatives from management.
