Officially, the ferry service between Majuli’s Kamalabari Ghat and Jorhat’s Neamatighat has restarted. Due to an abrupt drop in the Brahmaputra River’s water level, the service was halted on October 20.
A dredger belonging to the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has been dredging the canal that the ferries go through in recent days. The riverbed was dredged so that the ferries could run safely.
Nine ferries traveled from Kamalabari to Neamatighat on Wednesday, with eight traveling the other way. However, the water’s inadequate depth prevented larger vessels from operating, and dredging is still going on.
