Manipur opens border trade with Myanmar in September

September 3, 2020: The new guidelines issued by the Chief Secretary of Manipur Rajesh Kumar, have opened the lifelines of many people who were reportedly languishing in poverty due to the lockdown of the border trade with Myanmar.

The new guidelines issued by the Home Department of Manipur will be in effect for September.

The state government has allowed the movement of permitted goods across the Indo-Myanmar border under Land-Border Trade Treaties with Myanmar by strictly adhering to the Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) prescribed by the Government.

Manipur had closed its border with Myanmar since the beginning of the nationwide lockdown. Here are a few guidelines issued by the state government:

#The state government has made changes in the timings while giving further relaxation on the opening of shops from 7 AM to 5 PM for the essential items.

#All financial institutes, private banks etc are also directed to function with 66 per cent of staff in attendance.

#Shopping malls, barbershops, beauty salons and gyms to be opened in an orderly manner to “prevent crowding”.

#There is also an increase in the number of persons to be allowed in various congregations with a ceiling at 100 for sports, social, academic, religious, and political gathering while marriage ceremony at 50 and funeral ceremony can be attended by 20 persons.
