Maritime Association of Nationwide Shipping Agencies (MANSA) has welcomed the remedial action undertaken by Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal Ltd to modify their systems software of billing module and accommodate the trade’s request for billing the storage charges.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Commissioner’s office of Mumbai Customs, Zone II on the subject said, “MANSA Members expressed confidence that the current system would take care and serve the purpose appropriately. BMCTL has been requested to send an advisory about introduction of proactive measures in their system. In view of the above the subject agenda point maybe treated as closed.”

BMCT has worked closely with its vendors to expedite this change at its own cost and the modifications were completed and implemented from 26th Aug 2018. The trade had requested for billing the storage charges directly to the DPD clients or to the CFS that were collecting the DPD containers on behalf of their clients.

MANSA has also clarified that certain media reports in the past had misinterpreted some internal communication sent to the customs and reported incorrect and out-dated information on the subject. MANSA also appreciated the clarification from BMCT on one container that remained unnoticed during the period and was subsequently delivered on August 31, when the system was being stabilized.  BMCT clarified no such incident would recur henceforth.
