The ferry services to Mattancherry, which was stopped in 2018 due to floods is yet to resume as the Cochin Port Authority has informed that it will carry out dredging only in shipping channels. A lot of commuters were complaining against the Water Transport Department for not resuming the ferry service to the region, as lack of waterways connectivity is badly hampering the commute of thousands of people. The Water Transport Department has indicated less draft in the waterways as the major hurdle for resuming the waterways ferry service. The Kochi Metro Rail is also planning to construct its own water metro terminal, so that they may carry out the dredging activity in the future.
