Nagpur has been projected as the country’s next logistics powerhouse since the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was implemented in 2017. Despite the fact that India’s logistics and supply chain business has seen great growth with the implementation of GST, Nagpur’s lofty claims of the city taking centre stage in the logistics industry have remained nothing more than a ‘political hype.’

In Nagpur, the warehousing industry is only growing organically. Industries are establishing logistic centres in other cities where either demand or output is significant. Nagpur fails to meet both of these criteria, since the Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur – Special Economic Zone (MIHAN-SEZ) has been unable to attract the manufacturing industry to the city.

“Prior to the adoption of GST, Nagpur had high expectations due to the importance of Zero Mile and good road, air, and rail connectivity. The logistics business in Nagpur is expanding, but not in a multifold way. All industries were supposed to bring their products to Nagpur and then distribute them around the country. “However, the process has yet to pick up steam,” said Atul Rane, Chief General Manager of Container Corporation of India (CONCOR). In MIHAN, the CONCOR has a logistical hub. In the early years, Rane described it as organic growth; but, in terms of the logistics park, he noted that Nagpur was gradually becoming more competitive.
