Milaha, a Qatar-based maritime and logistics conglomerate, has inaugurated Phase 1 of the 400,000 sqm Milaha Logistics City, with a 35,000 sqm warehousing facility dedicated to temperature-controlled cargo. The new facility marks Milaha’s entry into cold chain solutions, and will cater to the food industry, pharmaceuticals, and other fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
The facility is divided into a frozen storage area, a chilled storage area, and a temperature-controlled storage area, ranging from -22° to +22° Celsius. The facility uses state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly technology, which earned it a sustainability award at the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD) summit recently held in Qatar. The new facility is also one of the highest in Qatar with 22 meters which allows more storage per sqm than many existing facilities in Qatar.
Milaha’s President and CEO Mr. Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai said: “Milaha Logistics City is a significant investment on our part in Qatar’s supply chain infrastructure and, in particular, cold chain capabilities, and we expect it to be a key enabler for logistics growth in Qatar. We want to give our clients more sophisticated options to access the local market. This new service offering will further strengthen Qatar’s position as a leading maritime and logistics hub as well as our own position as a national and regional supply chain partner.”
For his part, Milaha’s VP-Logistics Mr. Mazen Kloub said: “We are already seeing a tremendous response to the new facility, which is ideally located on the orbital road with close proximity to Qatar’s main airport and commercial seaport, and offers quick, easy access to Doha and beyond. We look forward to working with our clients and partners to help them seize the opportunities that this facility will enable.”
The 35,000 sqm warehousing facility is the initial phase of a larger development which also includes other specialized warehousing options that aimed at providing Milaha’s clients with advanced supply chain solutions. The construction of the project was managed by Milaha’s real estate arm, Milaha Capital, which ensured that the development adopted and complied with the highest international standards in safety, security, and technology.
