Ministry of Shipping forms panel for shipbuilding design & research

Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has formed a 12-member Shipbuilding Design Research Committee.

Following on the Budget announcements to shore up the shipbuilding industry and implement the initiatives, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has formed a 12-member Shipbuilding Design Research Committee. The committee is tasked with advising the government on setting up a Shipbuilding Design and Research Centre, and the National Shipbuilding Mission.

The panel will be headed by the Additional Secretary, MoPSW and comprise the Joint Secretary (Shipping), MoPSW, Joint Secretary (Ports), MoPSW, Director-General of Shipping or representative member, nominee of the Ministry of Defence, CMD of Cochin Shipyard Ltd, CMD of Shipping Corporation of India, a representative from Indian Maritime University, two representatives from Shipyards Association of India (SAI), a representative of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). The Director (SBR), MoPSW, will be the convenor of the panel, according to an order issued by the ministry on February 24, 2025.
