Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday (1 January) took stock of the construction work of the 28 km-long four-lane Mohgaon-Khawasa stretch in the Kurai valley in NH-44, reports Nation World News.

The project is set to be completed by March 2021 and it will subsequently cut down the journey time between Nagpur in Maharashtra to Rewa in Madhya Pradesh from 15 hours to 8 hours.

“Safety of passengers, area villagers and wildlife has been taken care of during construction of four-lane from Mohgaon to Khawasa. Construction of four-lane will not only make traffic safe but will also save time,” Gadkari was quoted in a report by the Hitavada.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has spent Rs 950 crore in making the 29-km long four-lane eco-friendly highway for protection of wildlife as it is attached to the Pench National Park in Nagpur.

As many as 14 wildlife underpasses spread across 3.41 km have been built on the highway to ensure the safety and movement of wildlife in the 9-km long stretch of the Pench Tiger Reserve. Vehicles will begin operating from the middle of the forest once the Mohgaon-Khawasa construction work is completed.
