M.V. LUCKY 7 which was safely moored at harbour in Mormugao Port, sailed out to sea on its voyage to Panjim on 13th July 2017 despite clear warnings from Capt. Manoj Joshi, Harbour Master, Mormugao Port Trust against sailing of the vessel due to rough seas in the peak of monsoon season. Consequently after sailing from Mormugao Port, due to rough seas the vessel went aground at the Miramar beach on its way to Panjim thereby exposing the coastal belt along the stretch of Miramar Beach to environmental disaster.
Faced with the prospects of causing environmental damage due to the grounding of the vessel close to the shore, there were requests from various stake holders and other Agencies asking for assistance from the Mormugao Port Authorities to re-float the grounded vessel and prevent any impending environmental damage. Acting on the direct instructions of Shri I. Jeyakumar, IRTS, Chairman MPT and under the leadership of Capt. Manoj Joshi, M.V. Lucky 7 was re-floated at around 09.30 hours on 5th October 2017 by using two tugs of the Port. The re-floating operation was meticulously planned, timed and executed. The operation was a success and M.V. LUCKY 7 after re-floating was safely anchored in deep waters along the river Mandovi thereby bringing relief to the local Administration.
