Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced the launch of a new weekly service, the Palmetto, from Asia to the US East Coast.

The new service will be calling Vietnam and Yantian with direct connections, and, the company claims, the best-in class transit times to the US South Atlantic ports of Savannah and Charleston, as well as New York, while the rotation will transit the Panama Canal on the way to the US

This new product will allow MSC to “improve the distribution of the cargo flows in our existing network and to improve the schedule reliability for our customers, among all service strings on the trade,” the Swiss-based line said in its announcement.

MSC is expecting to start this new service from Asia during May, subject to compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Full details of deployment, starting date, rotation, and transit times will be communicated in due course, according to MSC’s release.
