MSC orders 12 LNG powered box ships

The ships will have a length of 366 metres and a beam of 58.8 metres. In addition to using LNG as fuel, the ships will also be ready to run on Ammonia and Methanol.

MSC has placed orders with Zhoushan Changhong shipyard for manufacturing 12 LNG powered latest generation of ultra large container carriers. They will be designed by CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute, a subsidiary of CIMC. The ships will have a length of 366 metres and a beam of 58.8 metres. In addition to using LNG as fuel, the ships will also be ready to run on Ammonia and Methanol. They will be installed with various energy saving devices such as highly efficient rudders, rudder balls, energy saving ducts, windshield, high power shaft generators, shore power systems and energy efficiency monitoring systems.

Previously MSC had ordered for ten 11,400 teu ships and ten 10,300 teu LNG powered container carriers with the shipyard.
