In keeping with its ambition of being the prime location for cargo handling in the country, especially for pharmaceutical products, the Mumbai Airport has earned itself the CEIV Pharma certification. The airport has also joined “Pharma Aero”, a recent global initiative that aims to create high-quality supply chains for pharmaceutical and healthcare products between CEIV certified airport communities. In order to achieve reliable international transportation passages for pharmaceutical transport, MIAL has partnered with Brussels, an active CEIV airport, founder member of “Pharma Aero” and one of the major international hubs for pharmaceutical air transport, with a view to facilitate knowledge-sharing on the best handling practices, and minimizing temperature excursion while implementing CEIV recommendations that will strengthen the EXIM supply chain.
Furthering this commitment to pharmaceutical shipment through strategic execution, MIAL commissioned the new “Export Heavy and Bonded Cargo Terminal” at the onset of 2017, adding 3, 00,000 tons of cargo per annum to its overall capacity. In the past, MIAL has executed various forward thinking initiatives that have laid a strong foundation for maximizing its competence at air freight handling from the facility. The airport created new global benchmarks by introducing India’s first Air Cargo Community Portal GMAX (GVK MIAL Air Xchange) by MIAL, a unified electronic platform that strengthens digital interactions between the cargo terminal operator and all air cargo stakeholders. In addition to this, the organization has also emerged as a leader in air cargo e-freight initiatives, as an IATA accredited compliant, and is also the first airport in the country that offers a Cargo Mobile App.
