The port authority issued two tenders; the second was issued following a revision to the project’s bid specifications for which no one showed up. The previous proposal required the winning bidder to invest Rs575.19 crores for the design of the marina and its auxiliary systems, which would have covered 9.02 hectares of land and allowed for the parking of at least 300 yachts and pleasure boats of various sizes.
With the greatest number of recreational boats that are privately owned, there is a ready market for marinas. Owing to the lack of a dedicated marina off Mumbai, up to 200 small pleasure boats are usually parked close to the Gateway of India.
The port authority previously stated that it has assessed the opportunity to build a marina with all the standard amenities of the best marinas in the world in order to enhance and promote the growth of the city and its surrounding area while also opening the city to maritime tourism. This evaluation was made in light of all these factors as well as the historical and cultural significance of Mumbai and its hinterland.
