Trade bodies are concerned that the port is heading towards congestion. The pendency in movement of boxes between the terminal and CFSs is gradually growing. The port has been introducing a change in the process of issuing port entry permits for freight vehicles, which has increased the time taken by trucks for moving containers in and out of the port. The congestion has also put container rail operators in a fix as ICDs also form a significant share in Mundra’s box volumes. According to ACTO: “This has led to restrictions being placed by Indian Railways on double-stack loading in order to speed up train evacuation from the port.”
