Mundra port continues to be the star performer within the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) network. In the third quarter of the current financial year, the west coast port registered a total cargo growth rate of 25 per cent, led by container traffic, which grew by 38 per cent compared with the same period of the previous year, and liquid cargo volumes, which were up by 22 per cent.
The company claims that Mundra was the largest container handling port in India for the third consecutive quarter, handling 1.59 million TEU over the three month period. In addition, Mundra port handled 213,000 tonnes of LPG and 567,000 tonnes of LNG, representing growth rates of 50 per cent and 10 percent respectively.
Other western ports in the network, Dahej and Hazira, grew by 29% and 14% respectively while Dhamra port on the east coast registered a growth rate of 10%. Overall, the Adani ports network handled 76 million tonnes of cargo in the third quarter, a year-on-year gain of 37 per cent.
Five new container services were added during the quarter, two at Mundra, two at Hazira and one at Kattupalli. The incremental container volume on account of these additional services will be approximately 340,000 TEU on an annual basis, Adani forecasts.
