The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has started making efforts to include Nashik in the second phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project.

P Anbalagan, the CEO of MIDC, told TOI that he has asked the national industrial corridor development corporation to chalk out a feasibility report to include Nashik in the second phase of the DMIC.

MIDC has already identified land parcels at some locations in and around Nashik for the purpose. More land will soon be identified in the district.

Nashik’s inclusion in the second phase of DIMC will give a big push to industrial growth in the district.

Nashik had not been included in the first phase of the DMIC project despite the district having adequate water and land. Aurangabad was included in the first phase of the DMIC, and the project is giving a boost to industrial development there.

A delegation of Ambad Industries and Manufacturers’ Association (AIMA) members, led by its president Nikhil Panchal, recently met Anbalagan in Mumbai and urged him to make efforts to include Nashik in the second phase of the crucial project.

MIDC officials said the industrial areas that would get developed under the DMIC project will require adequate water. It will require around 24 million litres daily (MLD) of water for the industries under the DMIC project.

“Therefore, we need to plan properly for the availability of water. We are already in talks with the water resource department for the availability of water for the DMIC,” said MIDC officials. The DMIC seeks to create a strong economic base with a globally competitive environment and state-of-the-art infrastructure to activate local commerce, enhance investments and attain sustainable development. New DMIC cities will help meet the pressures of urbanisation and also lead the country’s economic growth for the next 20-30 years.
