Nashik’s ambitious 42-storey multi-modal transport hub, to be jointly developed by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), MahaMetro and MahaMail, will be built at a cost of around Rs 1,500 crore.

The hub, to be developed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, will act as a terminal for Neo Metro, Nashik-Pune high speed train project as well as city buses. The hub will house hospitals, shops, multiplexes and even offices of IT companies.

MahaRail has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the hub, and its officials recently gave a presentation about the project during a joint meeting of the three agencies in the city.

Speaking to TOI on Thursday, NMC commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar, who is the coordinator for identifying and planning the project, said, ‘The project will help attract investment and boost economic activities in the city. It may also attract IT companies to set up their offices.’

Pulkundwar said the project will need over 20 acres of land, and the location is yet to be finalized. The next joint meeting of MahaRail, MahaMetro and NMC is to be held at Mantralaya in Mumbai soon,” he said, adding that the state government is positive about the project.

According to MahaRail officials, the basement and first two floors would house the buses and trains, including Metro Neo, while the remaining 39 floors would have the hospitals, shops, multiplexes and IT company offices.

The foundation and first 2-3 floors of the hub will be constructed by MahaRail while the remaining floors will be built by construction companies under the PPP.
