NTPC approved an investment of Rs. 3004 crore in Talaipalli coal project in the state of Chhattisgarh. The investment was recently approved by the board of director of NTPC. When fully developed, Talaipalli is expected to produce 18 million tonnes of coal per annum.
NTPC is moving towards self-sufficiency in fuel. The company secured several coal blocs, including Pakri-Barwadih, Chatti-Bariatu, Kerandari, Dulanga, Talaipalli, Chatti-Bariatu (South), Banai, Bhalumunda and Mandakini B. In total, those assets hold geological reserves of some 7.15 billion tonnes.
Combined, all coal blocks allotted to NTPC have a total production potential of 107 million tonnes per annum, covering the generation of 20,000 megawatts.
