The Indian Ports Association has proposed a revised wage hike to the port workers’ union. The worker unions will hold a joint meeting among themselves on August 24 to plan on the next move. Sources from the labor unions opine, “The proposed revisions are meagre. The last wage revision package was implemented in 2017, which was due for renewal in 2022.” The unions will chalk out a coordinated stance which will be conveyed to the port’s association.

“The revised proposal is subject to the ministry’s guideline that – the wage revision shall be subject to the condition that there shall be no increase in labour cost per physical unit of output,” the ports authority stated in its letter.

The IPA further clarified: “Hence, the individual ports may offer the settlement plan in staggered manner in order to keep the labor cost per physical unit of output under control.”
